Thanksgiving - Erntedankfest

 Wir haben das Erntedankfest gefeiert.

We celebrated Thanksgiving. 

 

 Wir waren im Garten und haben ganz viele Rote Bete geerntet und später eine Suppe daraus gekocht. 

We harvested many many beetroots and later cooked a soup from them. 

 

 Die Sonne scheint zwar, aber es ist so windig, dass uns die Haare wegfliegen. :-) Hier haben wir noch ein paar kleinere Bete geerntet. 

Although the sun was shining it was so very windy that our hair kept flying around our heads. We picked some more, tinier beetroots. 

 

Es ist natürlich keine riesige Menge wie in einem richtigen Selbstversorger-Garten, doch die Gartensaison hat uns Spaß gemacht und wir wissen schon genau, was wir im nächsten Jahr anbauen wollen und was nicht mehr. Über die Paprikas freue ich mich ganz besonders, denn die Paprikapflanzen machten monatelang gar nichts und auf einmal, als ich sie schon fast aufgegeben hatte, bildeten sie lauter kleine Früchte. 

Of course it is not a huge amount of vegetables but we had much fun during this season in our garden and we know exactely what we want to grow next year already. I am especially happy about the peppers. For months the pepper plants didn't do anything and I was about ready to give them up but just then many little fruits appeared. 

 

Eine einzige Birne haben wir, und das, obwohl der Birnbaum im Frühjahr übersät war mit Blüten. Leider hat es dann nochmal Frost gegeben und nur eine Blüte hat sich wacker gehalten. Im nächsten Jahr passiert mir das nicht mehr, ich werde die Birne auf jeden Fall abdecken wenn wieder spät Frost kommt. Bis November reift sie jetzt hier drin noch nach und dann kann sie gegessen werden. 

We have one single pear although the whole tree was full with blossoms in spring. Unfortunately it turned so very cold after the blossoms appeared that they all - except for one - froze off. This is not going to happen to me next year, I will cover it up so they cannot freeze. The pear will ripen inside the house until november and then we can eat it.

 Rob schneidet Rosmarin, den wir für unser Olivenbrot verwenden wollen. 

Rob is chopping rosemary so we can use it for our olive bread. 

 

 Brot mit grünen Oliven und Rosmarin ohne Hefe.

Für das Olivenbrot haben wir 500 g Mehl und 300 ml Wasser mit Backpulver, 1 TL Salz und 2 EL Olivenöl gemischt. Weil Rob nicht gerne Hefe mag, dafür aber umso lieber Oliven, haben wir das Brotrezept ein bisschen abgeändert. 

For the olive bread we took 500 g flour and mixed it with 300 ml of water, baking powder, 1 tblsp of salt and a bit of olive oil. Rob doesn't like the taste of yeast too much but he loves olives so we changed the recipe a bit.

 Für die suppe nehmen wir jede Menge Rote Bete, Zwiebeln, Kartoffeln und Ingwer. 

For the soup we take beetroot, onions, potatoes and ginger.

Mit gehackten Mandeln und Kresse

 Für den Nachmittag zum Kaffee haben wir eine Idee von Eva aufgegriffen und ein Rosinenbrot gebacken, diesmal aber mit Hefe. 

For our tea time we have made a similar bread to the one Eva showed on her blog, it is a raisin bread and this one has yeast in it.

 

Für das Brot haben wir Mehl, Wasser, Hefe, ein Ei, Zucker und Butter genommen - und natürlich die Rosinen. Es hat wirklich sehr lecker geschmeckt. Der Teig musste eine Stunde lang gehen, er hat etwas länger gebraucht, nach eineinhalb Stunden war er soweit, dass er in den Ofen konnte. 

For the bread we mixed flour with water, yeast, an egg, sugar and some butter - and of course raisins. It was very tasty. The dough took one and a half hours to get ready to be put into the oven.

 Dazu gabs Lupinenkaffee - ich will versuchen, weniger Kaffee zu trinken und der Lupinenkaffee ist eine gute Alternative. 

We had lupine coffee with the bread - I am currently trying not to drink so much coffee and this lupine coffee is a good alternative.
