Deer rut - Hirschbrunft

Ich habe mit Rob einen Ausflug in den Wald gemacht, um Hirsche und Rehe fotografieren zu können. Wir kennen eine Lichtung im Wald, auf der sich jedes Jahr im September für wenige Wochen Hirsche und Rehe zur Brunft vesammeln. Man muss mitten im Nirgendwo parken und einen viertelstündigen Fußweg laufen, um zu der Stelle zu gelangen. Dort ist ein Schild, auf dem die Besucher gebeten werden, sich ganz ruhig zu verhalten, um die Tiere nicht zu stören. Es wissen gar nicht so viele Menschen von dieser Lichtung, deshalb sind meistens nur ganz wenige Leute dort, viele von ihnen sind Naturfotografen.

Zu dieser Zeit befinden sich tatsächlich hunderte von ihnen auf der Lichtung und lassen sich von einem eingezäunten Platz im Wald aus beobachten. Das ist ein herrliches Naturschauspiel, das man so einfach gar nicht oft erleben kann. Rob hat eine Canon und ein recht großes Sigma-Objektiv, so dass wir die Tiere richtig gut ranzoomen konnten. Jetzt sahen sie plötzlich aus als würden sie vor uns stehen. Er hat tolle Fotos gemacht, fast 200 Stück. 

I went on an excursion to a special forest with Rob the other day. We went there to take photos of deer. After parking the car in the middle of nowhere (or so it seems, there is nothing but landscape in the surrounding area :-) ) we walked through fields to the forest for about 15 minutes to get to the special fenced in place from which it is allowed to take photos. They put up signs to be really quiet so the deer don't get disturbed. Not many people know about this place and therefore it is luckily never crowded, most of the people that come there are nature photografers.

There is a clearing in the forest and on it hundreds of deer come together once a year in september for rut. They stay on the clearing pretty close to the trees from which people can observe them. It is a beautiful nature spectable that one usually never is able to observe - so many beautiful deer in one place. Rob has a Canon camera and a pretty big Sigma lens that goes with it so we were able to zoom the animals in pretty much - they seemed even closer to us looking at them on camera. Rob took great photos - almost 200.

Man kann das Röhren des Hirsches gut hören und es klingt beeindruckend. Prachtvolle Tiere, wir haben uns sehr gefreut, dass wir diesen Ausflug noch rechtzeitig geschafft haben. Außerdem hatten wir wirklich Glück mit dem Wetter. Als wir ankamen war es grau und es nieselte, aber als wir nach unserem Fußmarsch an der Lichtung ankamen, hat es aufgehört und die Sonne kam raus und ist fast eine Stunde lang geblieben. Glück gehabt! Perfekte Vorraussetzungen fürs Fotografieren.

You can hear the roaring of the stag and its very impressive. Magnificent creatures, we wer happy that we made it there on time before they all vanish into the forest again. We were lucky with the weather as well. When we arrived it was grey and rainy but after walking through the forest, when we got to the clearing, the sun came out and stayed for almost an hour. Perfect conditions for taking pictures.

Auf dem Weg zurück zieht es sich schon wieder zu. Kurz nachdem wir losgefahren sind hat es auch wieder angefangen zu regnen. Doch die Aussicht ist herrlich in der Eifel und das Licht fand ich auch schön, trotz der Regenwolken. 

On the way back to the car we saw new rain clouds coming up and shortly after we started the car it actually did rain again. But the view is beautiful, isn't it? So is the light, despite of the upcoming rain.

Derzeit wird überall im Wald offensichtlich viel gearbeitet. Jede Menge Bäume sind abgeholzt worden und liegen am Wegesrand. Vermutlich werden sie bald versteigert oder haben schon einen Besitzer, zu dem sie gehen. Auch bei uns im Park wurde der Wald "winterfest" gemacht. Wenn es anfängt, stürmisch zu werden, krachen aus den alten Bäumen sonst schnell mal Äste herunter und das kann gefährlich werden. Die Förster schneiden diese Äste vorher raus.

At the time there is much work done in our forests obviously. Lots of trees have been taken down and are stacked on the sides of the paths. They will soon probably be in an auction or already have a new owner and will be sold. In our local park the trees were prepared for wintertime as well. It's starting to get really stormy and there are always old trees out of which branches break and fall down. That can get dangerous and that's why the rangers cut these branches out before they break. 

Cookie hat sich auch gefreut, im Wald unterwegs zu sein. Obwohl ich sagen muss - man kommt kaum voran mit ihr weil sie an jedem, wirklich jedem Grashalm stehen bleibt. Alles muss erkundet werden. Eben ein sehr neugieriger kleiner Hund. :-) Trotzdem: wir hatten einen schönen Tag.

Cookie was happy to take a walk through the forest as well. Although I mus say - it's not really what you call walking with her since she stops at every - and I mean every - single blade of grass that she sees. Everything has to be explored. A very nosy tiny little dog. :-) Anyway - we had a nice day.

At the stable - Am Stall

Den Tag heute haben wir bei den Pferden verbracht. Mumpel liebt die kleinen Shetties, von denen es an diesem Stall eine ganze Kompanie gibt. Sie kennt mittlerweile die Charaktereigenschaften jedes einzelnen Rackers. Mumpel hilft regelmäßig wenn wir am Stall sind beim Shetty Kids Club aus. Kleinere Kinder dürfen sich um die Bande kümmern, sie ausführen ins Feld und in den Wald, und auf ihnen reiten. Mumpel hilft den Kindern und zeigt, wie man die Pferde putzt, was sie mögen und was man nicht tun sollte und wie man mit ihnen umgeht. Daran hat sie großen Spaß und zur Belohnung darf sie mit ihrer Freundin öfter mal mit den Shetties ausreiten gehen.

We've spent the day at the horsefarm. Mumpel loves the little shetties and this stable has a lot of them! By now Mumpel knows every character of them and that is because she helps in the Shetty Kids Club on a regular basis. Shetty kids club is for younger children. They can learn how to clean them and care for them, they take walks to the field or forest with them. Mumpel helps the little kids to learn how to treat horses in the right way and to get them ready for their trips around the stable. She does that with quite a lot of engagement and the best thing about it surely is that as a treat for helping her and her friend are often allowed to do their own field trips on the shetties.

Mehr Shetties - more shetties

Rob ist in der Zwischenzeit auf diesem großen Pferd geritten. Nach dem Ausreiten darf unbedingt noch gegrast werden, jetzt, wo das Wetter endlich wieder stabiler und schöner ist.

In the meantime Rob was doing horseback riding with this big horse. After riding he took him to the pasture to get some fresh grass. Everyone is happy about the fact the weather is finally getting better. 

Mit Cookie habe ich in der Zwischenzeit einen Spaziergang gemacht und sie rennt und freut sich sehr. Im Sand herumrasen macht ihr besonders viel Spaß, wie man an den aufgewirbelten Sandkörneren sehen kann. Rob hat das Foto für uns gemacht.

While the kids were riding, I went for a walk with Cookie and she is very happy to run in the sand as you can see: she's raising a lot of  grains of sand here. 

Diese Zapfen haben wir kürzlich aus dem Wald mitgebracht und ich werde sie ein bisschen dekorieren.

We brought these pinecones from our walk in the forest the other day and I think I will do a little decorating with them. 

Auf dem Rückweg vom Stall haben wir noch schnell in der Buchhandlung diese beiden Bücher abgeholt, die Mumpel sich bestellt hatte. Sie liebt im Moment nichts mehr als Pferdebücher und liest ganz schön viel und lange darin. Das bedeutet aber auch, dass uns ständig das Lesematerial ausgeht. :-) Hier ist also wieder Nachschub.

On the way back from the stable we went to the bookstore to pick up some books that Mumpel had ordered there. She loves nothing more than reading horse books at the time and she reads a lot in them. That means that we run out of books every so often. :-) Here we picked up some supplies. 

Morgen ist schon wieder Wochenende, ich wünsche Euch bis dahin noch zwei schöne Tage.
