Heute morgen habe ich mal versucht, unsere Gartenkräuter zu entsaften - Kresse, Thymian und Salbei. Ich war mir nicht sicher, ob der Entsafter das wohl schafft, weil die Zweige von Thymian und Salbei schon recht verholzt waren aber es hat geklappt!

 

This morning I tried to juice some herbs from our garden - cress, thyme and sage. I wasn't sure if the juicer would do it because the stems of thyme and sage already turned a bit woody but it worked out well!

Man hat die wenigen Kräuter neben dem ganzen Sellerie auch deutlich rausgeschmeckt, also war es von der Menge her nicht zu wenig. 

At first I thought I took not enough herbs besides all the celery but we could all taste the herbs so it was just enough.

 

 

 

Im Garten habe ich dann die letzten Rote Bete geerntet.

I took the last of our beetroots out of the raised flower bed. 

 

 

 

 

Jetzt gibt es noch Lauch und es kommt neuer Feldsalat.

We still have leek and lamb's lettuce.

Der Ahorn hat eine tolle Herbstfarbe bekommen.

Thomas hat mir nach der Arbeit geholfen, die letzten Pflanzen in die Erde zu setzen. Wir haben immernoch jede Menge Himbeeren im Garten und sie schmecken sogar noch. 

 

When home from work Thomas helped me to plant the rest of the flowers I ordered weeks ago. We still have lots of raspberries and they are still tasty. 

 

 

 

Abends habe ich noch einen Spaziergang gemacht. Es hatte keiner Lust, mitzugehen, also war ich allein unterwegs. Das Licht war toll, eine Mischung aus Sonne und sich immer mehr verdunkelndem Himmel. 

In the evening I went for a walk - by myself because no one wanted to come along. I love this light with the sun and the really dark sky at the same time.

Auf dem Rückweg bin ich bei meiner Freundin vorbeigegangen. Sie wollte mir ein paar Äpfel mitgeben, weil sie so viele Äpfel an ihrem Baum hat, dass sie sie gar nicht alle nutzen kann. Zuerst haben wir aber noch zusammen draußen gesessen und gequatscht. Plötzlich kann die Katze der Nachbarin in den Garten und ist den ganzen Abend nicht mehr von meiner Seite gewichen. 

On the way back home I went by my friend's house. She wanted to give me some of her apples from her tree as she has so many of them that she doesn't know what to do with hundreds of apples. First, though, we sat outside together and chatted a bit. Suddenly her neighbor's cat came into her garden and she never left me until I went home. 

 

 

 

Die Äpfel gehen bei uns sicherlich schnell weg. Meine Freundin hat einen sogenannten Familienbaum, an dem mehrere Sorten von Äpfeln wachsen. 

I suppose at our house these apples won't last too long. My friend has an apple tree called family tree with different sorts of apples growing on it.

A little gardening - Ein bisschen Gartenarbeit

Früher hatte ich im Garten Herbstanemonen. Sie blühen recht spät, wenn andere Pflanzen schon verblüht sind und haben tolle, rosafarbene Blüten. Ich war also am Samstag mit Thomas (und mit Mundschutz) im Gartencenter und habe drei gekauft und sie direkt vor das Hochbeet gepflanzt, so dass ich vom Küchenfenster aus draufschauen kann. 

Years ago we used to have chinese anemones in our garden. They blossom later than other plants and often still have blooms after all the other plants have already lost their blossoms. So I went to the garden center with Thomas on saturday (both wearing a face mask as we have to at the time) and bought three of them. I planted them right in front of our flower bed so I can watch them from my kitchen window. 

 

 So wie auf dem Schild sollen die Blüten im Herbst einmal aussehen.

 Es tut sich was im Vorgarten, der Thymian hat jede Menge lila Blüten bekommen. 

Something is going on in the front garden: thyme has loads of purple blossoms. 

 

 Ich habe Äpfel an meinem Topaz-Baum entdeckt.

Leider sind die Blüten des Birnbaums alle im Frost eingegangen. Nur diese eine scheint es geschafft zu haben, wir bekommen also eine einzige Birne. 

All the blossoms at our pear tree have died when it was cold and frozen outside, only one of them obviously has survived so we are happy to be able to harvest one single pear in fall. 

 Während ich arbeite liegt Cookie in der Sonne :-)

Thomas hat mir den Gartenschlauch mit Kabelbinder an einen Spaten gebunden, so dass ich die ganzen vielen kleinen Pflänzchen besser giessen kann, ohne mich bücken zu müssen. Man darf den Schlauch nicht direkt auf die Blätter halten, damit sie nicht kaputt gehen. Ich habe jetzt seit kurz vor Ostern jeden Tag zwei Stunden lang alle Beete gegossen, damit die Bodendecker und Hortensien, die viel Wasser brauchen, nicht eingehen. Es ist einfach viel zu trocken im Moment. 

Thomas tied the hose to a spade so I don't always have to bend over to water the small tiny little plants. I can't hold the hose with the water in it directly onto the plants, otherwise their leaves will be destroyed. Since shortly before easter I've spent two hours a day in the garden watering all the flower beds and especially all the hydrangea as they need lots of water. Its just to dry outside, no rain in sight.  

 Die Riesenblatt-Funkien kommen aus dem Boden. 

Large leaved hosta is coming out of the ground. 

 

 Der Frauenmantel sieht immer besonders schön aus, wenn Wassertropfen darauf perlen. 

Lady's mantle always looks so nice with water on it.
