Sunny weekend - Sonniges Wochenende

Dieses Wochenende ist viel passiert und irgendwie auch gar nichts los gewesen. Ausnahmsweise hatten wir ein komplett sonniges und heißes Wochenende. Das war sehr schön, weil wir endlich mal wieder draußen sitzen konnten. Thomas und Mumpel haben das Holz für einen neuen Couchtisch in der Werkstatt vorbereitet und auf dem Rückweg dieses Vogelnest mitgebracht. Seit Wochen war es auf dem Holzstapel hinter der Werkstatt und die Amsel ist ebenso lange nicht mehr zurückgekommen, um zu brüten. Warum, wissen wir nicht.

A lot happened this weekend and somehow nothing was really going on. For a change we had two complete days with sun and heat which was so nice because we could sit outside and "live" outside over the weekend. Thomas and Mumpel started preparing wood for a new couch table and on the way back home they brought this bird nest. They took it out of the stack of wook where it had been since weeks and weeks. We don't know why but the blackbird never came back to brood.

Mumpel möchte das Nest gern behalten und wir haben es erst einmal auf unser Tomatenbeet gelegt, dort unter dem Dach ist es vor Regen geschützt.

Wir haben wieder die Feuerschale angemacht und gegrillt, dazu gab es zwei Salate  und jede Menge Blaubeeren.

We did a barbecue once more using our fire bowl and we had two salads and a whole lot of blueberries with it.

Im Vorgarten haben die Rispenhortensien riesige Blüten bekommen.

Ich habe, wie vor wenigen Wochen hier schon einmal, wieder neue Kräuter zum Trocknen aufgehangen. Am Sonntag haben wir Oma und Opa besucht und mit ihnen im Garten gesessen. Oma hat jede Menge Frauenmantel, der jetzt in voller Blüte steht. Wir haben auch Frauenmantel, aber der ist wohl in diesem Jahr noch mit Anwachsen beschäftigt und so durfte ich - zur großen Freude meiner Mutter, die sich damit schonmal Gartenarbeit erspart hat, jede Menge Blüten schneiden und zum Trocknen mit heim nehmen.

A couple of weeks ago I had dryed herbs as you can read here and that is what I did again on sunday. We visited grandma and grandpa and sat in their garden with them. Grandma has great amounts of lady's mantle which is blossoming right now. We do have it as well but I guess since it is newly planted it is still busy growing. So I could cut a lot of it down at my mom's house and take it home to dry it to make tea from it. My mom was quite happy about it, now she doesn't have to cut it anymore.

Thymian trockne ich auch immer wieder. Er ist wichtig für uns für den Winter. Zusammen mit Salbei hilft er wunderbar gegen virale Infekte. Wir machen immer Tee oder grüne Smoothies daraus. Im Garten haben wir drei kleine Thymiane gepflanzt und innerhalb eines halben Jahres haben sie sich unglaublich ausgesät. Plötzlich wachsen überall kleine Thymianpflänzchen. Zuerst dachte ich, das sei ganz kleines Unkraut, doch dann hat Rob gemerkt, dass die winzigen Blätter aussehen wie die des Thymians und als wir dran gerochen haben war er es auch. Ich denke, die Blüten sind durch den ganzen Wind, den wir hatten, ausgesät worden. Mich stört es nicht, weil er auch das Unkraut weghält, vor allem den lästigen Schachtelhalm. Dann doch lieber Thymian, er blüht ganz lange und hat jede Menge Bienen und Hummeln angezogen.

We dry thyme a lot as it's an important herb for us for winter. Combined with sage it helps to strengthen the immune system against viral infections. We always make either tea or green smoothies from it. We have planted three tiny little thymes into our front garden and suddenly we find it everywhere! At first I thought that all those little leaves were weed but then Rob found out that they look exactly like thyme leaves and after we smelled them it couldn't be any weed, it is thyme for definite. I don't mind it spreading through the garden. It has beautiful little purple flowers and attracts loads of bees and bumblebees and it also keeps away the very annoying horsetail.
