The Romans - Die Römer

Was kann ich zu meiner Verteidigung sagen? Eigentlich gar nichts. :-) Der Wichtel steht immer noch im Wohnzimmer und es sieht immernoch weihnachtlich aus, obwohl schon Februar ist. Das Wetter war aber hier auch so schlecht und so kalt, dass es mir überhaupt nicht vorkommt, als könne bald Hoffnung auf Frühling bestehen. 

What can I say to my defense? Nothing really. :-) The imp is still standing around in our living room, making it look like christmas although we have february. But the weather has been so bad and cold that I still don't have much hope spring might be near.

Wir haben endlich mit den Römern angefangen. Das sind die Sachbücher, die wir uns zum Thema anschauen werden. Den Aeneas haben wir zuende gelesen und im Heft angefangen. Aus den Was - ist Was - Büchern picken wir uns das ein oder andere wichtige raus, werden sie aber nicht komplett lesen. Ich finde die Bücher teilweise unvollständig geschrieben und nicht ganz logisch aufgebaut. Dafür habe ich aber in der Mediathek des ZDF eine schöne Dokureihe gefunden, die sich "Große Völker" nennt. Eine Folge handelt von den Römern, die werden wir uns anschauen. 

Finally started with the Romans. These non-fiction books we will read to find out about roman life. We are not going to read all of it because I find they are partially incomplete and not always structured logically so we search for the info we need in addition to our other studies. I found a nice series of documentations on german tv which is called "Great people" and they have one documentation about the Romans, we will watch that.

All souls - Allerseelen

Am Sonntag haben wir Allerseelen "nachgeholt". Wir haben eine kleine Marienkapelle, die wir schon öfter besucht haben und dorthin haben wir einen Spaziergang gemacht, um Lichter für die Toten unserer Familie anzuzünden. 

We went to a little chapel on sunday to light some candles for our dead family members. It's a small chapel that we have visited quite a couple of times during the last years. 

 

Wir haben Lichter angezündet für die Uromas und den Opa, die wir in den letzten Jahren verloren haben und natürlich auch für Aaron und Findus, unseren Hund und unsere Katze. 

We lit candles for both great-grannys and grandpa who we all lost during the last couple of years and of course we also lit candles for our dog and cat Aaron and Findus. 

 

Nach dem Besuch in der Kapelle sind wir alle zusammen Pizza essen gegangen. Es ist manchmal gar nicht mehr so einfach, alle vier an einen Tisch zu bekommen weil die Kinder mitlerweile so viele Verabredungen und Aktivitäten haben, dass immer einer schon was vorhat. Doch heute hat es mal wieder geklappt und wir hatten eine gute Zeit in der Pizzeria. Aus der Pizzeria hab ich kein Bild gemacht.

After visiting the chapel we went out for Pizza together. Sometimes it is not that easy to get everyone around one table because the kids have so many activities that they do and so many times they spend with their friends that usually every day is full with plans.  Today we made it to the pizza restaurant all together which was really nice and we had a good time together. I didn't take a picture of our visit in the restaurant.

 

Gestärkt von der Pizza ging es noch ins Naturparkmuseum. Dort gibt es eine Ausstellung zum Thema Aquädukte, die sehr interessant war. Sie haben das Foto, das ihr oben seht, stark vergrößert an der Wand hängen. Es zeigt eine römische Wasserleitung mitten im Wald, bewachsen von Bäumen. Ein tolles Bild, das hat mir gut gefallen. 

After having pizza we went to visit a nature park museum. They have an exhibition about aqueducts that was very interesting. The photo you see above is a big picture that fills a part of a wall in the museum. It shows a roman aqueduct in the middle of the forest with trees growing above it. A great picture, I liked this one very much.

Aquädukte sind tolle römische Bauwerke, hier sieht man Beispiele: den Pont du Gard in Nimes, Frankreich, zwei Wasserleitungen in der Türkei und eine aus Spanien. 

Aqueducts are great roman buildings, here are some examples: Pont du Gard in Nimes, France, two aqueducts in turkey and one from spain.

Dieses tolle Naturbuch für Kinder habe ich im Naturparkmuseum entdeckt. Ich kenne die Autorin schon, denn wir haben einen Dauerkalender von ihr mit den Tieren des Waldes. Dieses Buch hat tolle Illustrationen und ist ganz liebevoll und informativ gemacht, es macht wirklich Spaß, darin zu lesen. Hier kann man es bestellen. Ich bin mit meiner Meinung nicht alleine, das Buch hat tolle Kritiken bekommen.

This is a great nature book for children, unfortunately I haven't found it in english. I have known the work of this author for a while because we have a huge calender from her with descriptions of the animals of the forest in it. This book has great illustrations in it and good information for children, it is so fun to learn about nature while reading it. You can order this german book here.
