Clifton suspension Bridge

Bristol's landmark is the suspension bridge. We went to the downs to have a look at it. The bridge was built by Mr. Brunel in order to connect the city parts of Clifton and Leigh Woods. It leads across the Avon gorge with its river. Rob and Mumpel found it quite impressive.

Bristol's Wahrzeichen ist die Suspension Bridge. Wir sind in den Park "The Downs" gefahren, um sie anzusehen. Sie wurde von Brunel gebaut, um die Stadtteile Clifton und Leigh Woods zu verbinden. Die Brücke führt über die Avonschlucht und den Fluss Avon. 

It was a bit scary but great to look down the cliffs of the gorge. There is a lot of wildlife along the gorge and birds of prey to be spotted. Each year in august the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta takes place and all the beautiful balloons fly over the gorge and the bridge. Loads of people gather in the parks in Clifton and Leigh Woods to watch this great festival with fireworks at night. 

Es war ein bisschen unheimlich aber auch klasse, die Klippen runter in die Schlucht zu gucken. Es gibt jede Menge Tiere, die in der Schlucht leben und vom Park aus kann man Greifvögel beobachten. Jedes Jahr im August findet die Bristol International Balloon Fiesta statt und all die schönen Ballons fliegen über die Schlucht und die Brücke. Jede Menge Leute kommen dann in den Parks in Clifton und Leigh Woods zusammen, um das Festival und das Feuerwerk zu geniessen.

Castle Park and St Nicholas Market

We often go to Castle Park when we are in the city centre of Bristol. On the upper picture you see the ruined tower of St. Peter´s church. It was bombed during world war two. The castle park is right close to the river Avon and a nice public open space to spend time.

Wir sind oft im Castle Park wenn wir im Stadtzentrum in Bristol sind. Auf dem Bild oben sieht man die Turmruine der St. Peter`s Kirche. Im zweiten Weltkrieg wurde sie zerstört. Der Castle Park ist direkt am Fluss Avon und ein netter Park zum relaxen und spielen.

Close to the Park is St. Nicholas Market. This is a neat little market. It offers many varieties of food, they even sell green smoothies with wheatgrass there. I like these a lot and do them at home as well. Also they have souvenirs, gems, clothes and toys that they sell. Mumpel has a favorite shop in St. Nicholas Market and it is the candy shop!

In der Nähe des Castle Parks ist der St. Nicholas Market. Das ist ein netter kleiner Markt. Hier werden alle möglichen Arten von Essen serviert, sogar grüne Smoothies mit Weizengras kann man hier kaufen. Die mag ich sehr gerne und mache auch gern mal daheim einen solchen Smoothie. Außerdem gibt es hier Souvenirs, Edelsteine, Kleidung und Spielzeuge. Mumpel hat ein Lieblingsgeschäft hier und es ist der Süßigkeitenladen!

Cabot Tower and John Cabot - Der Cabot Turm und John Cabot

When we visited the statue of John Cabot the other day on our way to the M Shed Museum, we learned about this well known explorer. So I thought I would show you some pictures of the Cabot tower in Brandon Hill Park in Bristol. The park is located in the city center, not far from the harbour and the statue. 

Als wir vor ein paar Tagen auf dem Weg ins M Shed Museum auch die Statue von John Cabot angeschaut haben, haben wir über diesen bekannten Entdecker eine Menge gelernt. Also dachte ich, ich zeige Euch auch noch die Bilder des Cabot Turms im Brandon Hill Park. Der Park liegt im Stadtzentrum, nicht weit vom Hafen und der Statue entfernt.

Rob and Mumpel found out that Cabot was a well known italian explorer in the 15th century. He was hired by the english and discovered different locations in Newfoundland, Canada. He started his tours from Bristol harbour which, back then, was the second largest seaport in England. There is a replica of his ship, "The Matthew" in the harbour that can be visited. 

Rob und Mumpel haben herausgefunden, dass Cabot ein bekannter italienischer Entdecker während des 15ten Jahrhunderts gewesen ist. Im Auftrag der englischen Krone entdeckte er verschiedene Gegenden in Neufundland, Kanada. Seine Reisen startete er vom Hafen in Bristol aus. Dieser war zur damaligen Zeit der zweitgrößte Hafen Englands. Eine Replik seines Schiffs "The Matthew" kann man im Hafen besichtigen.
