Winter memories - Winter Erinnerungen

Diese Woche geht es bei uns noch ruhig zu und deshalb bin ich auch - genau wie über Weihnachten - immer wieder mal dazu gekommen, an meinem Jahreszeitenbuch zu arbeiten. Ich habe mir vorgenommen, das Jahr über wirklich dran zu bleiben denn ich finde, es gibt nichts besseres, um sich zwischendurch zu erden, als sich mit etwas kreativem zu beschäftigen. 

After christmas vacation we are starting every-day life slowly and so I do find the time to work on my seasonal book more often than usually. I plan to really accomplish a whole year of drawing and writing a sort of diary into this seasonal book because I find there is no better way of grounding oneself than doing something creative.

Malen hat eine beruhigende Wirkung auf mich, kennt Ihr das auch? Allerdings muss ich auch dafür in der Stimmung sein. An manchen Tagen will einfach nichts klappen und dann lasse ich es lieber. Im Moment bin ich aber gern und mit Spaß dabei. 

Drawing has sort of a soothing effect on me, do you know what I mean, do you feel similar? But I have to be in the right mood for drawing. Some days it just doesn't want to work and nothing turns out the way I wanted. Thats the moment to put the drawing materials aside for some days. At the moment its much fun though. 

 

 

 Rob zeichnet auch viel, er beschäftigt sich mit seinem neuen Zeichenbuch über Pferde und hat dieses Pferd mit Hilfe einer Anleitung gezeichnet und schattiert. 

 Rob does a lot of drawing as well. He got a new book of how to draw horses and this is his first try. 

 Morgens im Dunkeln nur mit Kerzenschein wirft der Wichtel unheimliche Schatten. :-)

Early in the mornings when its still dark outside and only candles give light, the imp throws spooky shadows. :-)

 

Wir haben den Weihnachtsbaum schon rausgeschmissen und dieses Jahr bin ich ein bisschen traurig darüber, es war eigentlich noch so gemütlich. Doch er war nur noch eine Trauergestalt mit immer weniger Nadeln. Dafür steht jetzt Willi Wichtel in der Ecke, zusammen mit meinen Apfelzweigen mit Kugeln drin und einer Laterne. 

We already got rid of our tree and I have to admit that this year I'm a little sad about that, we are still all feeling cosy and it just doesn't look as cosy without the tree. But it had to be thrown out as it was loosing all of its needles and looked rather sadly. So now there is Willi imp standing in the tree corner together with a lantern and my apple trees which I have decorated.

Plants and Garden - Pflanzen und Garten

Völlig verspätet habe ich nun endlich Barbarazweige zu Hause stehen. Mal schauen, ob sie bis Weihnachten noch anfangen, zu blühen. Es sind sogar ganz besondere Zweige für mich, denn sie stammen von unserem eigenen Apfelbaum! Diese Woche ist der Garten bepflanzt worden, endlich, nach so langer Zeit haben wir wieder einen richtigen Garten. Als der Apfelbaum in die Erde gesetzt wurde, hat der Gärtner vorher noch einige Triebe in der Krone rausgeschnitten und diese Zweige habe ich nun im Haus. 

Way too late I finally have my Barbara branches in the house. Maybe they will blossom around christmas, we'll see. These are very special branches to me as they come from our very own apple tree! This week our garden was done and that meens the gardeners came with all the plants and planted them. He planted a new tree and when he put it into the soil he had to cut a couple of branches out at the top so I took these branches into the house. After almost four years of living on a building site we finally have our garden back!

 

Man sieht sogar noch den ein oder anderen Apfel drin hängen. Es ist ein Zierapfelbaum, die Sorte heißt "Red Sentinel". Er bekommt im Winter ganz viele knallrote kleine Äpfelchen, die man zu Kompott verarbeiten kann oder mit denen man dekorieren kann.  Außerdem wollte ich gerne dafür sorgen, dass wir im Winter wieder viele Vögel im Garten haben und die haben dann demnächt mit den Äpfeln auch was zu fressen. Ich finde die Baumkrone so schön, ich freu mich richtig über diesen Baum. Er ist fast vier Meter hoch. 

You can see some tiny remaining apples hanging in there. Usually this sort of crab apple has hundreds of bright red little apples during the winter and you can use them for decoration or even make compote from them. Besides my wish was to have many little birds in the garden again and with this tree they will have something to eat in the future. I like the treetop so much, I'm totally happy to have a tree in my garden. This tree is almost four meters high. 

 

Dieses Beet wird mit Bodendeckern bepflanzt, damit es schnell zuwächst und wir nicht nur Unkraut haben. Unter anderem sind Frauenmantel und Storchschnabel dabei. Die beiden größeren Sträucher sind ein japanischer Ahorn und ein Hartriegel mit rosa Blättern. Natürlich sieht das im Frühjahr und Sommer alles viel schöner aus. Man sieht dank der Jahreszeit kaum etwas aber das stört mich nicht, ich freu mich trotzdem, ich weiß ja wie es aussehen wird :-)

This bed gets all kinds of different ground cover plants so we won't have too much weed to take care of. There is lady's mantle and cranesbill and others. Other than that we have a japanese maple tree in that bed and a dogwood shrub. Of course all of that looks a lot nicer during spring and summer. Thanks to winter there is actually not much to see at the moment but I don't care about that, I'm so happy with my new garden anyhow and I know what it will look like later. :-)

 

Vor den Zaun kommt eine Rotbuchenhecke und davor jede Menge unterschiedlicher Hortensien, wiederum mit Bodendeckern davor. 

In front of the fence we will grow a hedge of European beech trees with hydrangea of all colors in front of it.

Dieser Baum ist auch neu, er ist viel kleiner als der Apfelbaum, wird aber über die Zeit größer werden als der Apfel. Es ist eine Sumpfeiche. Die Blätter sind spitzer als bei der normalen Eiche und saftiger grün. Im Herbst bekommt sie rotes Laub. Ich bin gespannt wie alles aussehen wird wenn es anfängt zu blühen bzw. Blätter zu bekommen. 

Another new tree, much smaller than the apple tree but in the future it will grow bigger than the other tree. This one is a swamp oak tree. Its leaves are a bit different to our normal oak leaves and they have a brighter green. During fall its leaves will turn red. I'm so excited to see how all this will look over time.
