Chestnuts, pumpkins, autumn atmosphere - Kastanien, Kürbisse, Herbststimmung

Gestern war wieder ein herrlicher Herbsttag - und den haben wir genutzt, diesemal unter anderem am Stall. Rob wollte diesmal, zusätzlich zum reiten, "sein" Pferd fotografieren. Schließlich kann es jetzt jeder Zeit der letzte sonnige Tag für eine ganze Weile sein. Wir sind mit ihm auf die Wiese gegangen, um einen schönen Hintergrund zu haben. Doch wie Pferde nunmal so sind, hat er sofort angefangen zu grasen, statt den Kopf schön hochzunehmen und in die Kamera zu gucken. Hier kam ich dann ins Spiel. Mit der Leckerchen-Dose in der Hand und motivierend rufend habe ich dann versucht, den Braunen nach Rob's Anweisungen anzulocken. Was soll ich sagen - es war eine Herausforderung aber es hat dennoch geklappt. :-) 

Yesterday it was again such a beautiful fall day - we did a couple of nice things, starting with spending time at the stable. Rob wanted - additionally to do horseback riding - to take a couple of photos of "his" horse since noone can say when the weather changes and it gets drousy for several winter weeks. This might be the last sunny day in a while. We went to the meadow with the result that of course a horse is a horse and he started to graze and never wanted to take his head up for us to take a nice picture of him. So now I come into the game. I tried to attract him with some treats that he loves, at the same time I was calling his name but for a while he just continued grazing. It was a challenge - but we made it after all. :-)

 

Nachdem es Rob gelungen war, ein paar schöne Fotos zu machen, sind wir mit ihm noch in die Halle zum Reiten gegangen. Anschließend müssen die Hufe gut sauber gemacht und das Pferd nochmal geputzt werden, vor allem da, wo der Sattel lag. 

After taking a couple of photos we went to the hall with him so Rob could ride him. After riding the hooves have to be cleaned properly and the horse has to be brushed, especially in places the saddle was laying on. 

 

Wir waren Kastanien sammeln an diesem schönen kleinen Teich. Um ihn herum stehen ganz alte Kastanienbäume, die jede Menge Früchte abwerfen. Seht Ihr sie auf der Brücke liegen? Das war Mumpel und mein Vorhaben denn wir dekorieren jedes Jahr mit den Kastanien, das ist schon eine richtige Tradition geworden. Wir wollten schon seit Wochen welche sammeln, doch ist uns ständig wieder etwas dringenderes dazwischen gekommen. Ich hatte schon gedacht, wir finden gar keine mehr. Hier an dieser Stelle gab es noch ganz viele, ganz im Gegensatz zu den Parks in der Stadt, die schon mit dem Rechen bearbeitet wurden. Dort wurde nicht nur das Laub sondern auch die Kastanien schon weggemacht. 

We went to this nice little pond to collect chestnuts. Around the pond there are many chestnut trees and they are full of fruits. Can you see them laying on the bridge in the pond? Mumpel and I decorate our house each year with chestnuts, it has become a tradition to collect them. We'd been wanting to collect some for weeks but then we always had something more urgent to do. I thought we'd be too late and there are no chestnuts left but quite the opposite was the case in this place. Before we had been to our local city parks. They have a lot of chestnut trees but the gardeners of our city had already removed all the chestnuts when they removed the leaves.

Indian Summer

Zu Hause haben wir die Kastanien an verschiedenen Orten im Haus und vor dem Haus drapiert. Am Wochenende haben wir Kürbisse gekauft, um daraus bald Halloween-Lichter zu machen. Noch dürfen die Kürbisse einfach so ohne Fratze den Hauseingang verschönern. 

Back home we found several places in and around the house to decorate with the chestnuts. Last weekend we bought some pumpkins for Halloween. It's too early to cut out a grimace yet but it's not too early to look nicely in front of our front door.

Meeting a new horse - Wir lernen ein neues Pferd kennen

Erstes Kennenlernen Mumpel und Toby - first meet between Mumpel and Toby

Mit Mumpel war ich vor ein paar Tagen unterwegs, um ein neues Pferd kennenzulernen. Sie hat sich schweren Herzens dazu entschieden, sich von ihrer Reitbeteiligung zu verabschieden weil sie mit der Besitzerin des Pferdes nicht mehr gut klar kam. Doch es hat sich eine sehr schöne andere Möglichkeit für sie ergeben, reiten zu können. Diesmal allerdings nicht in der Halle in der Reitstunde sondern draußen im Wald und auf den Feldern. Es geht um das Pferd auf dem Bild oben. Es ist ein Irish Cob und ist mit 1,30 m zu klein um Erwachsene zu tragen. Mumpel kann aber noch prima auf ihm reiten. Die beiden 20-jährigen Mädels, die diese drei irischen Pferde versorgen, reiten sie immer nur in der Natur, was Mumpel viel mehr liebt als das Reiten in der Halle. Sie haben Mumpel gefragt, ob sie nicht Lust hätte, auf diesen süßen Irish Cob mit ihnen auszureiten weil er fast nie geritten wird da er einfach keine Erwachsenen mehr tragen kann und sich aber doch bewegen soll.  Nach einem Probe-Ausreiten hat sie sich sofort dafür entschieden. 

Mumpel and I got to know a new horse a couple of days ago. With a heavy heart she decided to give up the horse sharing because she and the girl the horse belonged to weren't getting along anymore. But she found a beautiful possibility to keep up with her riding. From now on she will ride an Irish Cob horse, it's the horse you can see on the picture above. She will not ride him in the riding hall during riding lessons but only outside in the surrounding fields and forest which she loves much more than riding in the riding school. Two 20 year old girls take care of the three Irish Cob horses that live outside all year round and the one Ronja is supposed to be riding is too small to carry a grown up person. That would put too much weight on him as he is only 1,30 m tall. Mumpel is at a perfect age and weight to be able to ride him though. The two girls met Ronja during a lesson in the riding school and asked her if she would like to ride Toby because they were desperately looking for someone to ride him. So I went to see if this was a possibility with Mumpel and after riding him only once she decided to do it on a regular basis.

Das ist Toby und man kann sagen dass sich Mumpel sofort in ihn verliebt hat. Toby steht mit seinen beiden Freunden das ganze Jahr über draußen und geht prima im Gelände. Er ist ein ganz ganz liebes Pferd, vor allem ruhig und kein bisschen ängstlich oder hektisch. Das nimmt mir als Mutter natürlich auch ein bisschen die Sorge, dass was passieren könnte während des Ausreitens. Mumpel sieht ihn hier zum ersten Mal und hat alles gezeigt bekommen. Zusammen mit C hat sie ihn von der Wiese geholt und im Schatten geputzt und gesattelt, bevor sie ausgeritten ist. Ich bin während des Ausreitens zurück zum Pferdehof ganz in der Nähe gegangen und habe gewartet. Auf dem Weg zum Hof habe ich Mumpel gesehen wie einen kleinen Punkt am Horizont, wie sie im Galopp mit jeder Menge Staub hinter sich und wehenden Haaren auf Toby in den Wald galoppiert ist. Das Bild vergesse ich so schnell nicht wieder.

This is Toby and I think Mumpel fell in love with him right away. Toby lives outside all year long and he seems to be the perfect horse for doing riding trips through nature. He is so very calm and nice, he is not scared at all nor is he hectic. That is good thing to know for me as a mother as of course I always do worry something could happen while Mumpel is gone riding. This was the first time she saw Toby, she went to the meadow to get him and cleaned him together with C in the shadow. Afterwords the two girls took a trip through the surrounding fields with the horses. During that time I went back to the nearby horse stable and riding school to wait for Mumpel. While walking up to the stable I coud see her as a tiny spot in the distance, galloping happily with blowing hair and a great cloud of dust from the ground behind her, reaching the forest and vanishing in it. That was such a beautiful picture that I will not forget that fast.

Es war ein gelungener Tag und Mumpel darf Toby jetzt zweimal die Woche zusammen mit den anderen beiden Mädchen reiten gehen. Die beiden sind wirklich sehr nett und die Tatsache, dass sie schon etwas älter sind finde ich ganz gut für die Ausritte. Die drei verstehen sich gut und Mumpel kommt jedes Mal strahlend nach Hause wenn sie bei Toby war. So soll es doch auch sein. 

It's been a successful day and Mumpel can ride Toby twice a week now together with the other two girls. The girls are really nice and the fact that they are 20 already I think is a good thing for riding in nature. They all get along well and Mumpel always returns home with such a happy face so I suppose that's a very good sign.

At the stable - Am Stall

Den Tag heute haben wir bei den Pferden verbracht. Mumpel liebt die kleinen Shetties, von denen es an diesem Stall eine ganze Kompanie gibt. Sie kennt mittlerweile die Charaktereigenschaften jedes einzelnen Rackers. Mumpel hilft regelmäßig wenn wir am Stall sind beim Shetty Kids Club aus. Kleinere Kinder dürfen sich um die Bande kümmern, sie ausführen ins Feld und in den Wald, und auf ihnen reiten. Mumpel hilft den Kindern und zeigt, wie man die Pferde putzt, was sie mögen und was man nicht tun sollte und wie man mit ihnen umgeht. Daran hat sie großen Spaß und zur Belohnung darf sie mit ihrer Freundin öfter mal mit den Shetties ausreiten gehen.

We've spent the day at the horsefarm. Mumpel loves the little shetties and this stable has a lot of them! By now Mumpel knows every character of them and that is because she helps in the Shetty Kids Club on a regular basis. Shetty kids club is for younger children. They can learn how to clean them and care for them, they take walks to the field or forest with them. Mumpel helps the little kids to learn how to treat horses in the right way and to get them ready for their trips around the stable. She does that with quite a lot of engagement and the best thing about it surely is that as a treat for helping her and her friend are often allowed to do their own field trips on the shetties.

Mehr Shetties - more shetties

Rob ist in der Zwischenzeit auf diesem großen Pferd geritten. Nach dem Ausreiten darf unbedingt noch gegrast werden, jetzt, wo das Wetter endlich wieder stabiler und schöner ist.

In the meantime Rob was doing horseback riding with this big horse. After riding he took him to the pasture to get some fresh grass. Everyone is happy about the fact the weather is finally getting better. 

Mit Cookie habe ich in der Zwischenzeit einen Spaziergang gemacht und sie rennt und freut sich sehr. Im Sand herumrasen macht ihr besonders viel Spaß, wie man an den aufgewirbelten Sandkörneren sehen kann. Rob hat das Foto für uns gemacht.

While the kids were riding, I went for a walk with Cookie and she is very happy to run in the sand as you can see: she's raising a lot of  grains of sand here. 

Diese Zapfen haben wir kürzlich aus dem Wald mitgebracht und ich werde sie ein bisschen dekorieren.

We brought these pinecones from our walk in the forest the other day and I think I will do a little decorating with them. 

Auf dem Rückweg vom Stall haben wir noch schnell in der Buchhandlung diese beiden Bücher abgeholt, die Mumpel sich bestellt hatte. Sie liebt im Moment nichts mehr als Pferdebücher und liest ganz schön viel und lange darin. Das bedeutet aber auch, dass uns ständig das Lesematerial ausgeht. :-) Hier ist also wieder Nachschub.

On the way back from the stable we went to the bookstore to pick up some books that Mumpel had ordered there. She loves nothing more than reading horse books at the time and she reads a lot in them. That means that we run out of books every so often. :-) Here we picked up some supplies. 

Morgen ist schon wieder Wochenende, ich wünsche Euch bis dahin noch zwei schöne Tage.
