View on the river on a sunny winter day
Recently we have spent a day in the M Shed Museum in Bristol. The Museum tells the story of Bristol people and Bristol life as well as Bristols past. It is located right at the waterfront and has big glass windows with a beautiful views on the river and harbourside.
Kürzlich waren wir im M Shed Museum in Bristol. Das Museum erzählt die Geschichte der Menschen in Bristol und deren Leben und Vergangenheit. Es liegt direkt am Wasser und hat große Fenster mit einer tollen Aussicht auf Fluss und Hafen.
The kids enjoyed this old double decker bus to play in
On the floor right beside the double decker bus was a picture of a map of Bristol. We actutally stood on the map and tried to find out where we live in this city. It wasn't all that easy to find it and took us a while but it was a fun thing to do.
There was also one hall with loads of pictures and information about the different parts of Bristol on the walls. Every part has its own community and atmosphere. This exhibit showed us once again the wide variety of people and communities living here, the many different activities and possibilities in this city.
In den Boden direkt vor dem Doppeldeckerbus war eine Karte von Bristol integriert. Wir haben tatsächlich auf der Karte gestanden und versucht, herauszufinden, wo genau wir in der Stadt wohnen. Es war gar nicht so einfach, sich da erstmal zu orientieren und hat eine Weile gedauert. Aber am Schluss haben wir unser Haus gefunden.
Es gibt ausserdem eine ganze Halle mit jeder Menge Bildern und Infos über die verschiedenen Stadtteile Bristols. Jeder Stadtteil hat seine eigene Community und Atmosphäre, die überall ein bisschen anders ist. Diese Ausstellung hat uns wieder die große Vielfalt an Menschen gezeigt, die hier leben, die vielen verschiedenen Aktivitäten und Möglichkeiten.

A sky full of balloons
Colorful balloons remind of the annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, an event that takes place each year in August and attracts many Bristolians and visitors. It is a big fun event with Balloons from all over the world joining in. They all fly across the Avon gorge and over the Bristol Suspension Bridge. We have not seen it yet but it must be a very special series of days and the nightglowing sky during the Fiesta must be so beautiful.
Bunte Ballons erinnern an die jährlich stattfindende internationale Ballon Fiesta, die es in Bristol immer im August gibt. Sie zieht viele Einheimische und auch Besucher an und ist ein grosses spassiges Event, an dem Ballonfahrer der ganzen Welt teilnehmen. Wir sind noch nicht dabei gewesen aber diese drei bis vier Tage und Abende im August müssen ganz besonders schön sein.

John Cabot am Hafen in Bristol
On our way back we visited John Cabot's statue, a famous italian explorer, who sailed to America from Bristols seaport in the late 15th century. A replica of his ship "The Matthew" can still be seen in Bristols harbour. We spoke about who he was, when he lived and what he discovered. At home we then took a map to look up where Newfoundland in Canada is, the place he had discovered. Not far from the waterfront is Brandon Hill Park which has a tower called the Cabot tower. It was build to honor of John Cabot. We also walked up there to have a look over Bristol city.
Auf dem Weg zurück besuchen wir noch schnell die Statue von John Cabot, einem berühmten italienischen Entdecker, der von Bristol aus im 15.Jh. nach America segelte. Eine Replik seines damaligen Schiffs, der "Matthew", kann man sich hier im Hafen ansehen. Wir haben bei der Gelegeneheit über John Cabot gesprochen, wer er war, wann er gelebt hat und was er entdeckt hat. Zu Hause haben wir und dann eine Weltkarte genommen, um uns anzuschauen, wo Neufundland in Kanada ist, denn dort ist er damals gelandet. Nicht weit vom Hafen entfernt liegt der Brandon Hill Park und John Cabot zu Ehren wurde dort der Cabot Tower errichtet. Man hat von dort oben eine tolle Aussicht auf die Stadt.
