Fright on Friday - Schreck am Freitag

Rob und ich haben am Freitag einen richtigen Schrecken bekommen. Wir sind zum Hof hochgefahren, damit Rob seine Reitbeteiligung reiten kann und er hatte von der Besitzerin vorher schon gesagt bekommen, dass er nur Schritt reiten darf weil Bibob tags zuvor eine Impfung bekommen habe. Das hat er auch gemacht, doch irgendwie war mit dem Pferd überhaupt nichts los, er war richtiggehend schlapp. Nach dem kurzen reiten hat Rob ihn geputzt und eigentlich ist Bob hinter jeder Möhre her, die er ergattern kann. Doch an diesem Tag wollte er gar keine, hat nur Möhren aus der Hand angenommen und lustlos darauf herumgekaut. Er wollte auch irgendwie gar nicht alleine sein, war ganz warm und einfach nicht er selbst.

Rob and I got a fright on friday when we came to the stable for Rob to ride his horse. The owner of the horse told Rob that Bibob had a vaccination the day before and therefore he was to only do step riding for not longer than 30 minutes. Rob did that but somehow Bibob just wasn't himself at all, he gave a poor impression, was obviously very tired. After returning to the stable Rob brushed him and usually this is the time that Bibob takes every carrot that he can get but on this day he didn't ask for carrots and whenever Rob tried to give him one he took it after a while and did some tired chewing on it but he didn't enjoy it. Also we had the impression he felt warm and he just didn't want to be left alone.

Wir haben der Besitzerin sofort Bescheid gesagt und sie hat den Tierarzt angerufen, der wenig später auch kam. Bibob hatte sich wohl einen Infekt eingefangen - zusammen mit der Impfung natürlich eine unglückliche Kombination. Er hatte hohes Fieber und wir haben uns große Sorgen gemacht. Seit Sonntag nachmittag geht es ihm zum Glück wieder besser und wir sind allesamt erleichtert.

We told the owner right away that Bibob wasn't well and she called the vet who arrived shortly after the phone call. Bibob had a virus infection with a very high fever, which of course was a not very lucky combination with the vaccination that he got when he already must have had the virus. According to the vet he had a critical night and we worried pretty much about him. Luckily from sunday on he started to do better and we were all so relieved.

Montag früh sind wir wieder hochgefahren und durften eine kleine Runde mit ihm spazieren gehen. Es geht ihm wirklich viel besser, er war wieder ein bisschen frech und hat Rob auch begrüßt und jede Menge Möhren eingefordert. Rob nannte den Spaziergang später eine Schlemmerreise, denn viel gegangen sind wir nicht, stattdessen hat Bibob keinen Löwenzahn am Wegrand ausgelassen und auch kaum einen Grashalm. :-)

Monday morning we drove to the stable and took Bibob for a little walk through the fields. He is doing so much better, he was a bit cheeky as usual and kept asking for more and more carrots. Rob called this walk with him a little gourmet trip because we didn't get to walk a whole lot. Instead we stopped at each and every dandalion and blade of grass that Bibob came across. :-)

In den Disteln am Wegrand tummelten sich jede Menge Hummeln.

We saw all kinds of bumblebees in the thistles around.

Ich finde die Distelblüten eigentlich ganz schön - wenn sie nicht so stachelige Blätter hätten.

I actually think I like the flower of the thistles - if only they hadn't these prickly leaves.

Wie in jedem Jahr sind im Stall jede Menge Schwalbennester. Schwalben sind so schön, auch wenn sie einen riesigen Dreck hinterlassen. Das ist jetzt schon das x-te mal, dass ich versuche, die Kleinen in ihren Nestern zu fotografieren, was meist nicht gut funktioniert. Heute stelle ich die Fotos trotzdem mal ein. Die Mutter kommt gerade zurück, um zu füttern.

As every year there are lots of swallow nests in the stable. Swallows are such beautiful birds eventhough they leave so much dirt. This is the approximately 1000st time for me to try taking pictures of the little ones in their nest which mostly doesn't work too good. Today I post the pictures anyways. Mother swallow is just returning to feed the youngsters.

Eigentlich wollte Rob seine Kamera mitnehmen, damit wären die Fotos sicher gelungen, doch in der Aufregung haben wir sie beide völlig vergessen.

Actually Rob wanted to take his camera - we would have had much better photos, but due to all the fright with Bibob we simply forgot all about the camera.
