Middle ages and nature studies - Mittelalter und Naturkunde

Bei uns herrscht tristes grau draußen, schon seit Wochen. Wir haben abwechselnd Regen, Schnee, Hagel und Sturm - oder auch alles zusammen. Wir brauchen deshalb alle ein bisschen Gemütlichkeit. Diese Lampe und das Herz hat mir meine Schwester zu Weihnachten geschenkt udn sie haben jetzt beide Einzug auf den Couchtisch gefunden und machen stimmungsvolles Licht, während wir auf den Frühling warten. 

 

At the time we have such drowsy weather. It's been raining or snowing, hailing or stormy - or even all of that together. We therefore all need a bit of cosiness. This candle light and the heart was a gift from my sister. The candle makes beautiful light while we wait for spring to come. 

 

 

 

 

Unser Feen und Schneeglöckchenbild steht noch, die Kerzen hatte ich schon weggeräumt und habe sie wieder hingeräumt, weil es ständig dunkel ist.

Our picture with fairy and snowdrops on it is still in standing in the living room and I put up the christmas candles again. I actually had them in the basement already but since it is always dark again I got them back up. 

 

 

 

Ich habe wieder einen Strauss Tulpen geschenkt bekommen, er lag vor meiner Tür als ich heim kam. 

I received another bunch of tulips from my friend - they were laying in front of our door and I saw them when I returned home.

 

 

 

 

Ich habe meiner Freundin eins unserer Schneidebretter geschenkt und mit ihrem Namen versehen, ich glaube, deshalb habe ich die schönen Blumen bekommen. Natürlich ist das überhaupt nicht nötig. Ich freu mich aber sehr drüber. 

I gave one of our cutting boards to my friend a couple of weeks ago and I think that's why she bought me flowers. Of course there is no need for that but I'm so excited to get them.

In unserem Handwerker - Buch haben wir über den Tischler gelesen und Mumpel wusste schon einiges. Vielleicht kommt das daher, dass das der Beruf ihres Vaters ist. :-)

We have read about the joiner in our book about crafts and Mumpel knew quite a lot of things about this profession. Maybe that is because her dad is a joiner. :-)

Wir haben in diesem schönen Mitmachbuch zum Thema Naturkunde angefangen zu arbeiten. Im Moment lesen wir den Mittelalter-Roman von Inge Ott über die Tempelritter zu Ende und fangen gleichzeitig mit Naturkunde an, bevor wir nächste oder übernächste Woche zur Neuzeit übergehen. 

 

We started working on this beautifully made nature book. Right now we are reading our last novel about the middle ages (Templars by the author Inge Ott) and we started with nature studies, before we later on move on to Modern times.

Mumpel macht im Moment wieder ein Knüpfkissen. Diese Woche hat sie mit den Hirschen angefangen und dieses Foto hat sie gemacht, um es Oma zu schicken, damit sie schauen kann, welche Kissen schon fertig sind und wo sie gerade dran ist. 

 

Mumpel is all into handcrafting these nice wooly knot tied pillows. She started with another pillow with deer on it this week and took this photo to send it to grandma so she can see what she has already finished and what she is working on right now. 

 

 

 

Sie war auch ganz schön fleißig, was das Mittelalter angeht und hat mehrere Hefte dazu angelegt. Wir fangen heute mit einem neuen Heft für die Neuzeit an. 

 

She was also very busy creating booklets about the middle ages. We are almost through with this subject and will start to learn about modern times soon.

Am letzten Sonntag waren wir in der Werkstatt und haben Bilder von den neuen Längsholzbrettern gemacht, die wir mit auf unsere Flyer bringen wollen. Ich habe die halbe Woche daran gesessen, alles auszusortieren, neue Texte zu formulieren und alles an die Grafikdesignerin zu schicken. Es war mehr Arbeit als ich gedacht habe. Allein für die Fotos haben wir über vier Stunden gebraucht mit ausleuchten, Bildern in der Werkstatt machen und zu Hause mit Essen drauf. 

 

Last sunday we spent time in the workshop to shoot some photos of the new cutting boards that we want to present on a new flyer. I spent the week sorting out pictures and texting and sending everything over to our graphic designer so she can put it all together. It sounded like no work but it was more work than I thought. We took pictures in the workshop and also at home with food on the boards.

Ich habe wieder einen Blumenstrauß von meiner Freundin geschenkt bekommen, einfach nur so weil sie sich auch welche gekauft hat und diesmal in dem wunderschönen pink. 

 

My friend bought herself some tulips again and brought me some as well, just like that, no special occasion. This time they are beautifully pink.

Nice surprise - Schöne Überraschung

Als wir am Freitag von der Werkstatt nach Hause kamen, lag eine tolle Überraschung vor der Tür,  nämlich ein Strauß Tulpen für mich. Meine Freundin hatte sie mir dort hingelegt zu meiner großen Freude. Nachmittags hatten wir telefoniert und sie erzählte mir, dass sie sich gleich Tulpen kaufen geht und ich sagte ihr, das hielte ich für eine gute Idee, ich hätte dieses Jahr auch noch keine gehabt, müsse aber jetzt zur Werkstatt fahren. So hat sie an mich gedacht und mir einen Strauß vor die Tür gebracht. Ich habe mich sehr gefreut!

 

When coming home from the workshop on friday I found a nice surprise in front of our front door. My friend dropped a bunch of tulips for me after we talked on the phone a couple hours before talking about spring and wanting to buy some tulips for the dinner table. I told her I would have no time to get some this day because I had to go work and so she brought some to my house after she went shopping. I was so excited I love tulips and isn't this so nice that she thought of me?

Ebenfalls am Freitag haben wir Kamille - Samen ausgesät. Heute ist Sonntag und ich finde es unglaublich, dass sich in eineinhalb Tagen schon was tut. 

We put some chamomile seeds into soil on friday - today we have sunday and I can't believe how fast it grew, it took only one and a half days

Hello and a happy day from me and my christmas gnoms that are still standing in the living room. 

 

 

 

 

Ich habe jetzt schon mehrfach darüber nachgedacht, sie in den Keller zu räumen, aber ein kurzes Weilchen dürfen wir sie noch stehenlassen. Bei uns ist das Wetter seit Wochen eigentlich nur grau, wir hatten lange keine Sonne mehr und so mag ich die Weihnachtsgemütlichkeit noch nicht ganz aufgeben. 

 

I have been thinking of putting them back into the basement until november but I will leave them in the living room for a little bit. We have had weeks and weeks of really grey and drowsy weather without any sun and so I like to have our home a bit cosy still - even if it is with christmas decoration. 

 

 

 

 

Dieses Küchenhandtuch will noch gebügelt werden. Ich finde das so schön, ich habe es zu Weihnachten bekommen, es zeigt die Dalarna Pferde aus Schweden..

 

This is my new and really nice kitchen towel. I like it a lot, I got it for christmas and it shows the Dalarna horses of Sweden.

 

 

 

 

Die beiden Gemüsebilder zeige ich Euch, weil ich sehr sehr froh bin, einen Gemüsehof gefunden zu haben, der liefert. In diesen Zeiten gehe ich noch weniger gern in Läden einkaufen als vorher schon (vorher war es einfach nur lästig, jetzt kommt die Ansteckungsgefahr dazu). Bei diesem Hof kann man bis 16 Uhr am Nachmittag bestellen und wird am gleichen Tag noch bis 20 Uhr beliefert. 

 

I show you these veggies because I have finally found a farm that deliveres food! I am so happy about that as I always disliked shopping and now during this pandemic I don't really like going into shops at all, especially since numbers here are rising. At this farm I can order until four p.m. and they deliver the food the same day before 8 p.m. 

 

 

 

 

Ich finde das einfach großartig und das Gemüse ist immer frisch, es gab noch nie was zu beanstanden. Die Bilder sind leider nicht gut geworden, weil ich die Kisten abends ohne Tageslicht fotografiert habe, aber Ihr wisst ja auch so, wie Gemüse aussieht. :-)

 

I think that is incredible and a great help for me. All the vegetables are always fresh, nothing at all to mourn about. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take better pictures of the boxes as I took the photos at night without having any daylight but I suppose you all know what veggies look like. :-D

 

 

 

 

Am Samstag abend spät, nach 22 Uhr, haben wir dann doch tatsächlich nochmal Schnee bekommen. Mumpel hat sich so darüber gefreut. Sie wartet ja schon seit Wochen auf Schnee und wir haben sofort die Gunst der Stunde genutzt und sind zu einem Spaziergang in der Dunkelheit aufgebrochen. 

 

Late at night on saturday, we really did get some snow and Mumpel was so excited about it. She had been wishing for snow for weeks and weeks as you know. We went for a long walk and enjoyed it.

Den Schnee fand sie ganz interessant, aber er ist eben doch, wie Regen auch, nass. Also ist sie immer bei schlechtem Wetter ganz froh, drin zu sein. 

She thought the snow was interesting but it is wet so in the end she is happy to be inside. 

 

 

 

 

Sonntags haben die Kinder Pfannkuchen gemacht. Ein Eisbär war auch dabei. 

On sunday the kids made pancakes - one of them was a polar bear.

Dieses dicke Buch über die Handwerksberufe gefällt uns gut. Es ist informativ und enthält auch Gedichte und Geschichten. 

 

We like this big book of craft trades a lot. It gives good information and also contains poems and tales. 

 

 

 

 

Diese Amsel besucht uns jeden Morgen im Futterhaus. Leider konnte ich sie nicht scharf fotografieren weil sie zu weit weg war und ich auch nicht wollte, dass sie wegfliegt. Trotzdem ist das süss, während sie unsere Körner frisst, passt ihr Mann auf, dass sie keiner stört. 

 

Each morning we have a visitor in our birdfeeding house. This blackbird is eating at the same time each day in this little house while her husband is watching out that she is not being disturbed.

Everyday life - Alltag

Kaum zu glauben, aber wahr - ein klitzekleines bisschen Schnee haben wir doch bekommen und Mumpel hat sich sehr darüber gefreut. Morgens, als wir aufgestanden sind, hat es noch geschneit und nachmittags war dann aber alles schon zu Matsch geworden. 

 

We couldn't believe it but we got a bit of snow actually - Mumpel was so excited, she had been wishing for snow. When we got up in the morning it was snowing but in the afternoon only rainy mud was left over.

Am Wochenende haben wir unser Bücherregal aufgeräumt und umgeräumt. Wir haben mittlerweile so viele Bücher, dass ich gar nicht mehr weiß, wohin damit. Thomas hat uns neue Böden gemacht und ich wollte sie (und die Bücher) eigentlich nur schnell einräumen. Aber man kennt das ja - am Ende habe ich das ganze Regal aus- und wieder eingeräumt und alles neu sortiert. Jetzt passen mehr Bücher rein. 

Over the weekend we sorted our bookshelf. We have so many books and we don't even know where to put them all so Thomas made us some more shelves and fitted them into the cupboard. I wanted to fastly just put the remaining books into it but of course it took me a whole afternoon instead of being fast. I took everything out, sorted the books and put them back in. More books than before fit into the shelf now. 

 

 

 

 

Wir haben so viele Kinder- und Jugendbücher, teilweise noch von mir von früher.

We have so many childrens' books, partly my books from when I was young.

 

 

 

Seit heute Morgen hat uns der Alltag wieder und wir haben uns für die nächsten Wochen viel vorgenommen. In den Wochen vor Weihnachten hatten wir so viel zu tun, dass wir das Mittelalter ein wenig geschlunzt haben. Das holen wir jetzt nach, unter anderem mit diesen Büchern. 

Every day life has us back and we have quite a lot to do during these upcoming weeks. During advent we had so many different things to do that we kind of neglected our middle ages period. We will catch up with it now, using these books. 

 

 

 

 

Im Rahmen des Mittelalters schauen wir uns nochmal all die Handwerksberufe aus dem dicken Handwerksbuch an.
