Sankt Martin - Martinmas

Am Martinstag haben wir spätnachmittags zusammen gesessen, und es uns gemütlich gemacht. Mumpel und ich haben Weihnachtslieder geflötet. Es ist schon langsam dunkel geworden und wir haben zusammen über Martin und seinen Weg gesprochen. 

 

On Martinmas we sat together and had a cosy afternoon, playing some christmas songs on the flute. It became dark slowly but surely and we spoke about Martin and his way in life. 

 

 

 

Wir haben all unsere selbstgemachten Lichter aufgestellt und zusammengesessen bis es dunke draußen war.

We put all our selfmade lights onto the table and watched it getting dark outside. 

 

 

 

 

Weil am 11.11. auch Karnevalsbeginn ist, dachte ich, ein paar zusätzliche Berliner können nicht schaden. 

On the day of martinmas carnival time also starts in germany and for that we traditionally eat jelly filled doughnuts.

Baking, workshop and Saint Martin - Backen, Werkstatt und Sankt Martin

Am Wochenende haben wir neue Plätzchen gebacken, diesmal sind es Mandelmakronen geworden. Eigentlich wollte Mumpel Kokosmakronen machen, doch dafür fehlte uns Kokos. Mit Mandeln geht das aber auch gut!

 

At the weekend we baked more cookies for christmas. This time we made almond macaroons. Actually Mumpel wanted to bake coconut macaroons but we had no coconut left so we just took almonds. They turned out well. 

 

 

 

 

Ich glaube, ich muss mehr Plätzchendosen bestellen, wenn wir so viel weiter backen.

If we continue baking every weekend I need to buy more cookie jars.

Im Garten haben wir unsere letzten Paprika geerntet. Es ist auch endlich wieder die richtige Jahreszeit für Maronen, darüber freut sich Thomas sehr. 

We harvested our last peppers and finally it is the right time of year to have chestnuts again, which Thomas is really fond of.

Ach ja, das hätte ich fast vergessen: wir waren auch noch in der Werkstatt und haben ein Schneidebrett für einen Kunden gebaut. 

Almost forgot to say: we went to the workshop as well at the weekend and built another one of our cutting boards for a client. 

Samhain

Am Sonntag haben wir ein wenig Samhain gefeiert - diesmal aber ohne grillen sondern einfach nur mit einem Feuerchen, um das wir zusammen gesessen haben. Völlig entspannend, die Flammen einfach machen zu lassen und reinzuschauen. 

 

On sunday we celebrated Samhain a bit - without barbecue but just sitting around the fireplace and looking at the flames and relaxing.

Vorher haben wir aber noch gebacken - die ersten Plätzchen des Jahres.

Before sitting around the fireplace we baked the first christmas cookies of the year. 

 

 

 

Weihnachten steht jetzt schneller vor der Tür als man glaubt. Es fühlt sich so an als hat man noch viel Zeit und plötzlich ist man schon kurz vor Heiligabend gelandet. Das ist jedes Jahr das gleiche, zumindest bei uns. Damit sich nicht alles knubbelt und man in Hektik ausbricht, haben wir schonmal mit dem Backen angefangen.

 

I don't know about you guys but at this home it is the same each year: I think I have lots of time until christmas and then time passes so fast and I am getting annoyed with having so much to do and only one or two weeks left to do it. So we started baking cookies early this year.
