Advent decoration - Adventsdekoration

Endlich komme ich mal wieder dazu, diesen Blog weiterzuführen. Es ist im Moment so viel los, dass ich einfach nicht mehr wußte, wann ich noch schreiben soll. Nicht nur, dass wir derzeit viel in der Werkstatt sind, um Schneidebretter zu bauen, es tummeln sich auch die verschiedensten Aktivitäten aller Familienmitglieder, die Oma braucht Hilfe und Gesellschaft und den alljährlichen Weihnachtswahnsinn und den Alltag habe ich noch gar nicht mitgerechnet. Kurz und bündig: nichts besonderes, stressig wie bei vielen anderen, also schluss jetzt mit Jammern. :-)

 

 

I finally find the time to write this blog again. There are so many things to do at the time, I just didn't know when to write. A day should have 40 hours instead of 24. We spend much time at the workshop crafting cutting boards, the kids have a lot of dates and appointments and so do we, Thomas and I. Grandma needs help and company and the yearly run for christmas decorations and gifts and of course, every day life, is not even counted into this list. Anyhow - nothing special, just a lot to do as many families do, so I stop complaining now. :-)

 

 

Diese schöne Weihnachtsdekoration hat Oma uns geschenkt. Sie hat einfach eine rechteckige Schale genommen, einen Tannenbaum und Wichtel zusammen mit Dekorationen aus Kugeln und Tannenzapfen reingestellt bzw gelegt und ein schönes Licht mit Sternen drauf dazugegeben. Sie macht uns jedes Jahr einen schönen Adventsschmuck. 

 

 

Grandma gave this beautiful advent decoration to us. She decorated a little tree with a gnom, pine cones and some xmas baubles and put a light with stars with it. She does advent decoration for us each year.

Die Kapuzinerkresse hat auch noch Blüten. Ich finde das faszinierend. 

Nasturtium still has flowers, I find that fascinating.

 

 

 

 

Diese Äpfel werden die Reife wohl nicht mehr erleben, trotzdem sich der Baum alle Mühe gegeben hat. :-)

Unser Amberbaum hat Indian Summer.

Wir haben nun schon seit drei Wochen einen Weihnachtsbaum - einen, den wir eigentlich niemals haben wollten, nämlich einen künstlichen. Ich hätte niemals gedacht, dass ich sowas mal aufstellen werde. Wir waren uns in einem einig: wir möchten dieses Jahr früh Weihnachtsstimmung erleben. Mit einem richtigen Baum geht das leider nicht, wir haben das schon ausprobiert, die Nadeln sind so gut wie ab an Weihnachten. Also haben wir uns vorerst für dieses Exemplar entschieden. 

 

Since three weeks we have a christmas tree - a tree that we never wanted - a plastic tree. I never would have thought that I would ever put a plastic tree up but we all thought: for this year we all need a little early christmas spirit and that just doesn't work with a real tree, it would loose all needles until xmas. So we decided on this one. 

 

 

 

 

Oder sagen wir lieber, ich habe mich dafür entschieden, die Kinder waren erst richtig sauer. Vielleicht stellen wir am 24. noch einen richtigen Baum auf. In diesem Baum sind jetzt sieben Pakete Kugeln drin, ich zeige ihn demnächst nochmal im Hellen. 

 

Or let's better say I decided on it, the kids were initially really mad with me. We might put a real one up on the 24th. I have seven boxes of baubles in this tree, I will show it in daylight in one of the next posts.

Sankt Martin - Martinmas

Am Martinstag haben wir spätnachmittags zusammen gesessen, und es uns gemütlich gemacht. Mumpel und ich haben Weihnachtslieder geflötet. Es ist schon langsam dunkel geworden und wir haben zusammen über Martin und seinen Weg gesprochen. 

 

On Martinmas we sat together and had a cosy afternoon, playing some christmas songs on the flute. It became dark slowly but surely and we spoke about Martin and his way in life. 

 

 

 

Wir haben all unsere selbstgemachten Lichter aufgestellt und zusammengesessen bis es dunke draußen war.

We put all our selfmade lights onto the table and watched it getting dark outside. 

 

 

 

 

Weil am 11.11. auch Karnevalsbeginn ist, dachte ich, ein paar zusätzliche Berliner können nicht schaden.

Baking, workshop and Saint Martin - Backen, Werkstatt und Sankt Martin

Am Wochenende haben wir neue Plätzchen gebacken, diesmal sind es Mandelmakronen geworden. Eigentlich wollte Mumpel Kokosmakronen machen, doch dafür fehlte uns Kokos. Mit Mandeln geht das aber auch gut!

 

At the weekend we baked more cookies for christmas. This time we made almond macaroons. Actually Mumpel wanted to bake coconut macaroons but we had no coconut left so we just took almonds. They turned out well. 

 

 

 

 

Ich glaube, ich muss mehr Plätzchendosen bestellen, wenn wir so viel weiter backen.

If we continue baking every weekend I need to buy more cookie jars.

Im Garten haben wir unsere letzten Paprika geerntet. Es ist auch endlich wieder die richtige Jahreszeit für Maronen, darüber freut sich Thomas sehr. 

We harvested our last peppers and finally it is the right time of year to have chestnuts again, which Thomas is really fond of.

Ach ja, das hätte ich fast vergessen: wir waren auch noch in der Werkstatt und haben ein Schneidebrett für einen Kunden gebaut. 

Almost forgot to say: we went to the workshop as well at the weekend and built another one of our cutting boards for a client. 

Samhain

Am Sonntag haben wir ein wenig Samhain gefeiert - diesmal aber ohne grillen sondern einfach nur mit einem Feuerchen, um das wir zusammen gesessen haben. Völlig entspannend, die Flammen einfach machen zu lassen und reinzuschauen. 

 

On sunday we celebrated Samhain a bit - without barbecue but just sitting around the fireplace and looking at the flames and relaxing.

Vorher haben wir aber noch gebacken - die ersten Plätzchen des Jahres.

Weihnachten steht jetzt schneller vor der Tür als man glaubt. Es fühlt sich so an als hat man noch viel Zeit und plötzlich ist man schon kurz vor Heiligabend gelandet. Das ist jedes Jahr das gleiche, zumindest bei uns. Damit sich nicht alles knubbelt und man in Hektik ausbricht, haben wir schonmal mit dem Backen angefangen.

 

I don't know about you guys but at this home it is the same each year: I think I have lots of time until christmas and then time passes so fast and I am getting annoyed with having so much to do and only one or two weeks left to do it. So we started baking cookies early this year.
