Back home - Wieder zu Hause

We are back home after spending wonderful summer and fall weeks in france. This is what our indian summer looks like in our surroundings. Actually, it did look like this. When we got up this morning it was really stormy and we saw all the leaves from the trees flying in all directions. We've had some lovely autumn days but now its obvious that winter is on its way. 

Wir sind wieder zu Hause, nachdem wir herrliche Sommer- und Herbstwochen in Südfrankreich verbracht haben. So sieht unser Indian Summer hier in der Gegend aus. Oder besser gesagt, so sah er bis heute aus. Seit heute morgen ist es hier sehr stürmisch. Die Blätter fliegen von den Bäumen in alle Richtungen davon. Nach den schönen warmen Herbsttagen merken wir so langsam, dass der Winter kommt.

Recently we visited my friend who is very good at sewing. She has a little sewing workshop and there the kids created these cute little lavender bags out of cloth and the lavender we brought home from france. My friend showed us two different sewing machines and how to use them and we found out that it is not easy to sew slowly with these machines. Rob and Mumpel liked this very much and we decided to be back very soon and do another sewing project. 

Vor kurzem haben wir meine Freundin besucht, die eine sehr gute Näherin ist und eine kleine Nähwerkstatt hat. Dort haben die Kinder zusammen mit ihr diese wunderschönen Duftsäckchen gemacht und mit dem Lavendel bestückt, den wir aus Frankreich mitgebracht haben. Wir haben zwei verschiedene Nähmaschinen kennengelernt und festgestellt, dass es gar nicht so einfach ist, mit der Maschine langsam und nicht zu schnell zu nähen. Den Kindern hat das so viel Spaß gemacht, dass sie bald wiederkommen möchten.

Tourtour and Cotignac - Tourtour und Cotignac

On our way to "Tourtour", a little mountain village. Its also called "Village dans le ciel", village up in the sky.

Hier sind wir gerade auf dem Weg nach Tourtour, einem kleine Bergdorf in der Provence. Tourtour nennt man auch "Village dans le Ciel", das Dorf im Himmel.

There is a nice little shop in the village which sells all kinds of ancient things like mineral stones, shark teeth, vases and pots and more. This big regional dinosaur head is sold for.... wait for this... 100.000 Euros. Looks like the big dinosaur eats the little one, Mumpel said. :-)

Es gibt im Dorf einen netten kleinen Laden, der allerhand altes aus vergangangener Zeit verkauft wie Steine, Haifischzähne, Vasen und Töpfe und mehr. Dieser große Dinosaurier, der in der Region gefunden wurde, wird für schlappe 100.000 Euro verkauft. Das sieht aus, als frisst der große Dino den kleinen, sagt Mumpel. :-)

Afterwards we went on to visit the market at another town called "Cotignac". We really enjoyed the markets around here. Every day of the week they had one rotating all the surrounding villages. Markets in Provence include fresh foods as well as woodwork, clothes, antiques, dinnerware, herbs and spices and many more. 

Danach sind wir noch auf den Markt in Cotignac, einem anderen Dorf in der Nähe, gefahren. Wir haben es sehr genossen, die vielen Märkte in der Region zu besuchen, die jeden Tag der Woche stattfinden, immer in einem anderen Dorf. Hier gibt es nicht nur frisches Essen sondern auch Holzarbeiten, Kleidung, Antikes, Geschirr, Kräuter und vieles mehr.

Several little cafes are surrounding the market place so we had a nice time out with coffee and orangina before heading home

Mehrere Cafes gibt es am Rand des Marktplatzes, so konnten wir uns vor dem Heimweg bei Kaffee und Orangina erfrischen

Grimaud and Mediterranean Sea

A couple of days during this year's holiday we spent at the Mediterranean Sea. It was lovely! Now we know why the cote d'azur is called that way. The color of the water is incredibly beautifully blue and although already september the sun and the water were still warm enough to go in and swim. Except for some lion's mane yellyfish we had to be careful with but nothing happened, luckily. 

Ein paar Tage haben wir auch am Mittelmeer verbracht und nun haben wir selbst gesehen, warum die Cote d'azur so heisst wie sie heisst. Das Wasser ist so wunderschön azurblau und obwohl wir schon September hatten, war es noch warm genug zum Schwimmen. Manchmal gab es ein paar Feuerquallen, vor denen wir uns hüten mussten, aber es ist zum Glück nichts passiert.

A little further up in the mountains above the bay of St Tropez is the beautiful old village of Grimaud located. The kids had fun walking through the little alleys, exploring . 

Ein Stück über der Bucht von St Tropez liegt, in den Bergen, das schöne alte Dorf Grimaud. Die Kinder sind durch die engen alten Gassen geflitzt und haben sich umgeschaut, was es hier alles gibt.

 Way home through "Plaine des Maures" - isn't this a beautiful scenery? You get here right after passing the mountains which are called "Massif des Maures".

Der Weg zurück durch das "Plaine des Maures" - Ist das nicht wunderschön? Es liegt direkt hinter den Bergen, dem "Massif des Maures".
