Insect hotel for bees et cetera

An Insect hotel is supposed to provide nesting facilities for various insects. This is important especially during the winter time when such a hotel offers shelter to them.

Rob and his dad built this insect hotel in the workshop. They first built a frame and put boles into it in which they drilled holes of different sizes. Depending on the size various insects move into it. Insect hotels allow bees, bumblebees, wasps, butterflies and other to nest during winter as well as they help protecting them from extinction. Robs special idea was to put a nesting facility for tits into the middle of the frame which IS actually a funny idea. On the little sign it says: "Acommodation including breakfast." :-)

Rob hat mit Papa dieses Insektenhotel in der Schreinerwerkstatt Rheinbach gebaut. Die beiden haben sich überlegt dass sie einen Rahmen bauen, in den sie Stücke von Baumstämmen einbauen, in die sie zuvor verschieden grosse Löcher gebohrt haben. Je nach Größe ziehen unterschiedliche Insekten ein. Als künstllich erschaffene Nisthilfen tragen Insektenhotels zum Erhalt bedrohter Bienen wie z.B. Wildbienen und Hummeln bei. Robs besondere und doch witzige Idee war es in die Mitte einen Meisenkasten zu setzen. Auf dem Schild steht geschrieben: "Übernachtung mit Frühstück." :-)
